Recipe Philly to Launch in Center City with Unique Community Focus

A new dining concept, Recipe Philly, is set to open in Center City, Philadelphia, this spring. Located at 1401 Arch Street, the restaurant will offer a menu crafted from recipes submitted by local home cooks, aiming to celebrate community and family connections through food. The launch is scheduled for spring 2026, according to Philadelphia Today.

The idea for Recipe Philly originated from a company potluck during the Great Recession, founded by Ed Baumstein. The restaurant aims to create an intimate dining experience that combines the warmth of home-cooked meals with a professional setting. Contestants have been invited to submit their recipes in a competition that began on November 8, 2025, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Participants are divided into categories such as appetizers, soups and salads, poultry, pasta, seafood, meat entrees, desserts, and more.

Judging will focus on taste, creativity, and the story behind each dish. Winners of the contest will receive $1,000 and have their names and photos featured on the restaurant’s menu. In addition, they will be able to dine for free at Recipe Philly for as long as their recipe remains available.

A seating capacity of 175 customers allows for a vibrant atmosphere, catering to the dense population of Center City. Baumstein has expressed hope that this model could be expanded to other cities in the future.

To further engage the community, a docuseries is in the works to document the competition, judging process, and the restaurant’s development. Production will be handled by Kinnane Brothers, a company known for its work on independent films and comedy projects. Chef and partner Andy Revella, who has experience developing menus for establishments such as Bennigan’s and Rainforest Cafe, will play a key role in bringing the winning recipes to life in the kitchen.

The menu will feature a diverse range of dishes that reflect the culinary traditions of the home cooks involved, from classic comfort foods to international flavors. This unique approach to community-driven dining is expected to resonate well with local residents, especially as interest in such concepts continues to grow.

Baumstein envisions Recipe Philly not only as a dining destination but also as a platform for local cooks to share their food and stories with a wider audience. The potential for the docuseries to air on streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu has also been highlighted, adding another layer of excitement to the project.
