Resolution Minerals Ltd (ASX:RML) has announced a significant advancement in its plans for the historic Golden Gate Tungsten Mine and its associated stockpiles. On January 23, 2026, the company provided an update regarding its ongoing exploration and development initiatives at the Horse Heaven Gold-Antimony-Tungsten-Silver Project located in Idaho, USA. This announcement follows previous communications about the acquisition of the Johnson Creek Mill and extensive historical data evaluation.
To enhance its exploration efforts, Resolution Minerals has appointed David R. Hembree, a seasoned geologist with extensive experience at the Golden Gate site, to spearhead the development activities. Hembree, who served as the Mine Geologist at Golden Gate in the early 1980s, will focus on analysing historical tungsten data and initiating a drill program scheduled to commence in June 2026. This program aims to assess existing tungsten stockpiles and identify additional resources.
Strategic Initiatives and Historical Context
Resolution’s engagement of Hembree, who has over 45 years of geological experience in the western United States, is expected to be pivotal for the company’s ambitions. His previous roles at various mines, including Mount Hamilton and French Gulch, position him as a vital asset in the exploration of both the Golden Gate target and emerging sites within the Horse Heaven Project.
The Golden Gate Tungsten Mine has a rich history, having produced tungsten ore intermittently from approximately 1952 to 1980. During its operational years, ore was processed at the nearby Stibnite Mill and later at the Johnson Creek Mill, which will soon be acquired by Resolution. The mill, along with an estimated 2,000 tonnes of tungsten ore stockpiles, is strategically located adjacent to the Horse Heaven Project and is currently undergoing due diligence.
Resolution’s assessment indicates that there is considerable potential to expand tungsten mineralisation along the Golden Gate Fault, as well as at other targets within the project area. By leveraging ground-based exploration techniques, geophysical assessments, and historical data, the company aims to develop a comprehensive exploration plan.
Market Dynamics and Future Outlook
The demand for tungsten is set against the backdrop of rising prices, currently at a record high of $900/mtu. This surge is attributed to increasing global tensions and heightened demand for clean energy solutions, particularly in sectors such as advanced manufacturing and technology. As the market for tungsten continues to evolve, Resolution Minerals aims to position itself as a key player in meeting the growing needs for this critical metal.
The acquisition of the Johnson Creek Mill offers multiple strategic advantages, including the ability to conduct processing activities on private land, which is in short supply in the region. This move is expected to facilitate partnerships for downstream integration and enhance Resolution’s operational flexibility.
Resolution Minerals is also optimistic about the future of tungsten production in the United States, particularly in light of government efforts to secure domestic sources of critical materials. CEO Craig Lindsay highlighted the importance of Hembree’s expertise, stating, “We are confident additional ore remains at the historic Golden Gate Tungsten Mine, as well as at other emerging targets at Horse Heaven.”
As the company progresses with its exploration and acquisition activities, it plans to undertake further assessments, including metallurgical testing and ground-based sampling. The upcoming drilling program will be critical in determining the viability of new tungsten resources and solidifying Resolution’s position in the market.
In summary, Resolution Minerals Ltd’s advancements at the Golden Gate Tungsten Mine represent a strategic initiative to tap into burgeoning tungsten demand while leveraging historical insights and expertise for future growth.
