Longstanding Chelsea restaurant Cafe Riazor has officially transitioned ownership within the family, as confirmed by recently filed paperwork. Siblings David and Martha Romero are now at the helm of the popular establishment located at 245 West 16th St. The change of ownership comes as their parents step back from day-to-day operations, marking a new chapter for the renowned venue.
Both David and Martha have been integral to the restaurant’s operations, having worked as managers since 1989. Their experience and familiarity with the business are expected to ensure the retention of the restaurant’s legacy, atmosphere, and operational methods. The siblings expressed a commitment to maintaining the unique charm that has drawn patrons to Cafe Riazor for decades.
The restaurant features a diverse Spanish-inspired menu that highlights a variety of dishes. Popular entrees include filet mignon broiled with steamed lobster tail, broiled ribeye steak, calamari served with tomato mayonnaise sauce, and whole red snapper boiled with lemon wedges in garlic and wine. Additionally, Cafe Riazor offers a selection of traditional tapas, such as sautéed shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, and stuffed piquillo peppers.
Operating hours for the restaurant are set from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., accommodating a total of 43 guests across 12 tables, along with a stand-up bar that seats 12. The transition in ownership is anticipated to preserve the restaurant’s commitment to quality dining and a welcoming environment.
As the Romero siblings embark on this new venture, they aim to honor the legacy established by their parents while also exploring potential enhancements that align with modern dining trends. The community can expect to see Cafe Riazor continue to be a beloved destination for both locals and visitors seeking authentic Spanish cuisine in Chelsea.
