The Mexican Restaurant Set to Elevate Dining on Brickell Key

A new culinary gem is set to open on Brickell Key, as The Mexican, a contemporary Mexican restaurant, prepares to welcome diners in April 2026. This establishment marks the expansion of the brand from its successful flagship in Dallas, aiming to redefine modern Mexican fine dining in South Florida.

Roberto González Alcalá, the owner of The Mexican and President of Intelectiva Restaurant Group, envisions the restaurant as a sophisticated destination that honors the rich heritage of Mexican cuisine while embracing a global perspective. “The energy of Brickell Key, with its waterfront setting and international community, is the perfect home for our vision,” González Alcalá stated. He added that after the success of the Dallas location, Miami felt like a natural evolution for the brand.

Architectural and Artistic Design

Located along the pristine waterfront, The Mexican spans over 10,000 square feet and accommodates more than 330 guests in both indoor and outdoor spaces. The restaurant’s design, curated by internationally acclaimed interior architect Paulina Morán, is heavily influenced by Mexican art and reflects contemporary Mexican aesthetics without losing touch with its roots. Morán’s previous work includes the award-winning design of The Mexican Dallas, which was honored as one of the World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants by Prix Versailles in 2023.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by dramatic floor-to-ceiling golden double doors that lead into a curated tequila gallery, showcasing hundreds of rare and collectible bottles. Central to the space is a striking heart installation made of hand-laid geometric forms, symbolizing the restaurant’s dedication to authenticity and artistry. The dining area features a grand bar and a spacious dining room, highlighted by circular ceiling installations crafted from layered, hand-finished wood slats, creating a sense of floating elegance.

The warm ambiance is enhanced by wood tables and sculptural chairs, all illuminated by soft lighting that casts an inviting glow. Limestone archways define intimate dining alcoves, while geometric tile flooring pays homage to traditional Mexican designs. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the Brickell skyline, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere both day and night.

Culinary Excellence and Unique Offerings

At the heart of The Mexican experience is its high-level culinary program, deeply rooted in Northern Mexican traditions. The menu, which combines heritage recipes with modern techniques, aims to cater to a contemporary Miami palate. Signature dishes include Barbacoa de Arrachera, a slow-cooked skirt steak, and Lobster Elote, a luxurious take on traditional street corn featuring Maine lobster.

Vegetable-forward dishes such as Roasted Cauliflower with truffle and habanero ash reflect the kitchen’s commitment to balance and culinary technique. Additionally, exclusive Miami dishes will highlight local purveyors, including the flavorful Tuna Tomahawk, showcasing the city’s coastal bounty.

The beverage program features an innovative selection of margaritas and cocktails that go beyond the classics. Options include Mujeres Divinas, infused with hibiscus, and elevated reserve margaritas crafted with ultra-aged tequilas.

The Mexican will be situated at 601 Brickell Key Drive, Suite 100, Miami, FL 33131. Dinner service will be available Monday through Wednesday and Sunday from 17:00 to 22:00, and Thursday through Saturday from 17:00 to 23:00. The bar will open daily at 16:00, with closing hours extending to 23:00 from Monday to Wednesday and Sunday, and until 00:00 Thursday through Saturday. Reservations will be available via OpenTable starting on March 15. For more information, visit www.themexican.com or follow on social media @themexican.miami.

As The Mexican prepares to unveil its unique blend of culture, art, and cuisine, it promises to be a noteworthy addition to Miami’s vibrant dining scene.
