Construction Begins on New Kindergarten in Sunshine West

Construction has officially commenced on a new kindergarten facility in Sunshine West, located on the grounds of Ardeer South Primary School. This initiative, part of the Victorian State Government’s commitment to early childhood education, aims to enhance local educational resources.

During a site visit last month, Lizzie Blandthorn, the Minister for Children, and Sarah Connolly, the Member of Parliament for Laverton, celebrated the start of the building process. The new kindergarten will feature two classrooms designed to accommodate up to 66 children, providing essential early education services to the community.

According to statements from the state government, the kindergarten’s establishment is expected to simplify drop-off routines for families who have children enrolled in both the primary school and the kindergarten. Andrea Markham, principal of Ardeer South Primary School, emphasized the benefits of having the kindergarten on-site. “This will provide a brand new facility for parents in the local community to be able to access,” she stated.

The principal highlighted that the proximity of the kindergarten will foster stronger relationships between educators and families. “It really helps with transition to school programs because we’ll be able to build relationships with the parents from the kindergarten,” Markham added. She noted that children will feel more comfortable as they connect with the school community during their kindergarten years, enhancing their overall educational experience.

As part of the state government’s “best start, best life” reforms, each new primary school in Victoria is set to include a kindergarten. This initiative underscores the commitment to integrating early childhood education within the primary schooling framework.

The Victorian Government plans to appoint an approved provider for the new kindergarten later this year. The facility is scheduled to open in time for the commencement of Term 1 in 2024. Additionally, a new kindergarten will be constructed at Glengala Primary School, also set to open at the same time, further expanding early education options in the region.

The establishment of these facilities reflects a broader strategy to enhance educational services in Victoria, ensuring that children receive a solid foundation in their formative years.
