On October 14, 2023, Curtin University in Kalgoorlie-Boulder hosted an Open Day that attracted more than 400 high school students. The event provided a unique opportunity for students to explore university life through a variety of engaging activities and workshops designed to inspire their educational and career aspirations.

Experience University Life Firsthand

Students from various high schools participated in hands-on activities that allowed them to experience different fields of study. Workshops covered a range of topics, from engineering and health sciences to arts and business, giving attendees a comprehensive overview of the courses available at Curtin University.

The university aimed to create an interactive environment where students could ask questions and engage with faculty members and current students. This direct interaction provided valuable insights into the academic journey they may pursue after high school.

According to Dr. Margaret Smith, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Curtin University, “We want to open the doors to higher education and show students what possibilities await them. Our Open Day is designed to break down barriers and encourage young people to consider their future.”

Inspiring Future Leaders

The event not only focused on academic offerings but also included discussions about personal development and leadership skills. Attendees participated in sessions that emphasized the importance of community involvement and lifelong learning, essential components in today’s rapidly changing job market.

Feedback from participants indicated a strong interest in pursuing further education. Many students expressed excitement about the prospect of attending university and were particularly drawn to the supportive atmosphere fostered by Curtin’s faculty and staff.

As part of the Open Day, a variety of successful alumni shared their experiences, highlighting how their time at Curtin University shaped their careers. This real-world perspective resonated with students, many of whom left the campus feeling motivated to pursue their educational goals.

With events like the Open Day, Curtin University continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a vibrant learning environment. The initiative not only benefits students but also contributes to the development of the local community by encouraging young individuals to invest in their education and future careers.

The next Open Day is scheduled for March 2024, promising to build on the success of this year’s event. As more students consider their paths after high school, such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of leaders.
