Families Invited to Explore Local Kindergartens in March Open Days

As part of the upcoming Kindergarten Readiness Month, families in Brimbank, Victoria, will have the opportunity to explore local kindergartens during a series of open days from March 17 to March 26, 2024. These events aim to provide parents with insights into the kindergarten experience and how it supports children’s development across various dimensions.

During the open days, parents can meet educators, ask questions, and discover how kindergartens foster social, emotional, and educational growth in children. The initiative is designed to help families feel more prepared as their young children transition into this crucial stage of learning.

In addition to the open days, the Brimbank Council will host drop-in information sessions throughout March. These sessions are intended to assist families in navigating the kindergarten registration process. According to Virginia Tachos, the Mayor of Brimbank, “Kindergarten readiness month is a wonderful opportunity for families to explore local kindergartens, discover what’s on offer, and learn how to get started.”

Cr Tachos emphasized the importance of kindergarten, noting that “attending kindergarten helps children build important life skills, including creativity, social and emotional growth, and early reading and language skills.”

Registrations for the 2027 kindergarten year are now open. Families with children aged three and four can access free sessional kindergarten or opt for low-cost integrated sessions available through long day care centres. However, it is important to note that sessional kindergarten places are limited. The council allocates available spots based on a priority of access system that aligns with guidelines from the Department of Education.

Parents can register their children for three and four-year-old sessional kindergarten online at brimbank.vic.gov.au/kindergarten. For details regarding open days and drop-in sessions in their area, families can also visit brimbank.vic.gov.au/kindermonth. No bookings are required for the open days and drop-in sessions, making it easy for families to participate.

With these initiatives, the Brimbank Council aims to ensure that families are well-informed and prepared for the kindergarten experience, supporting a smooth transition for children into early education.
