Multiple Fatalities Confirmed at House Fire in Sanson

A tragic house fire in Sanson, located in the Manawatu region of New Zealand, has resulted in multiple fatalities. According to Inspector Ross Grantham, the Manawatu Area Commander, emergency services responded to the incident at approximately 2:30 PM on the afternoon of the fire.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the property, but efforts to save lives were unsuccessful, leading to the tragic confirmation of several fatalities at the scene. The specifics regarding the number of victims and their identities have yet to be disclosed, pending appropriate notifications to families.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, Fire and Emergency NZ has transitioned control of the scene to the police, who are now initiating an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire. Inspector Grantham stated, “Police can confirm we are not seeking anyone else in relation to the fire,” indicating that there are currently no outstanding suspects connected to the incident.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a police scene guard will remain at the location overnight. Officers are scheduled to return to the site on the following day to continue their inquiries.

In response to the incident, State Highway 1 has been closed to facilitate emergency response efforts and investigations. Authorities expect the highway to reopen around 8 PM local time, once the scene is cleared and deemed safe for traffic.
