At approximately 15:00 local time, members of the State Highway Patrol detected a 56-year-old driver travelling at 99 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Bulla Road. The officers conducted a traffic stop and administered a preliminary breath test, which yielded a positive result for alcohol consumption. Following this, an evidentiary breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.122, significantly exceeding the legal limit.
The driver, who resides in Sunbury, faced immediate consequences, including the suspension of his driving license. Additionally, his vehicle was impounded, incurring a fee of $1,064. He is expected to be charged via summons with various traffic offences.
Operation Amity is designed to be highly visible throughout the Australia Day long weekend, which runs from 23 January 2024 to 26 January 2024. The operation focuses on reducing road trauma by targeting impaired driving, speeding, fatigue, and distraction on the roads. Police are committed to enforcing these measures in an effort to enhance public safety and decrease the incidence of road accidents.
As this operation continues, authorities urge drivers to remain vigilant and responsible. By adhering to road regulations and avoiding alcohol consumption before driving, individuals can significantly contribute to safer roadways.
