Police Arrest Two After Drug and Weapon Discovery in Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop in Walkley Heights led to the arrest of two individuals after police discovered a significant cache of drugs and weapons. The incident occurred at approximately 23:00 on 15 November 2023, when Road Policing officers stopped a Mercedes sedan for running a red light and making an illegal U-turn at traffic lights on Bridge Road.

During the stop, the driver, a 22-year-old man from Gumeracha, underwent a drug test, which revealed positive results for both cocaine and methamphetamine. Following this, police conducted a search of the vehicle, uncovering a notable assortment of illegal items.

The search yielded 39 MDMA tablets, 15 grams of ketamine, steroids, and approximately $3,000 in cash. Additionally, officers found balaclavas, a set of knuckle dusters, and three knives within the car. These findings prompted the officers to arrest both the driver and his passenger, an 18-year-old from Freeling.

Both men face several serious charges, including trafficking a controlled drug, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing an article of disguise, and possessing prescription drugs without a valid prescription. Following their arrest, they were granted bail and are scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 16 January 2024.

In addition to the drug-related charges, the driver received a fine for the traffic offences committed during the stop. Authorities have indicated that further charges may be forthcoming pending the results of forensic analysis related to the drug test conducted at the scene.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding drug use and weapon possession in the region, drawing attention to the critical work of law enforcement in maintaining public safety.
