Sergeant Terry McCulloch expressed disappointment at the level of disregard shown by many motorists. He noted that excuses provided by drivers, such as “I’m late for work,” “I’m not from this area,” or “I didn’t realise,” were insufficient.
“These are not valid reasons for speeding as the speed limit is clearly signposted and all road users have a responsibility to drive safely and lawfully,”
McCulloch stated. His remarks reflect a growing concern regarding the impact of reckless driving on public safety.
The operation coincided with heightened awareness following a tragic double fatality in southern Tasmania earlier in the day. This incident has intensified scrutiny on driver behaviour and the need for stricter adherence to traffic laws.
