Police Seek Witnesses After Knife Incident in Brisbane

Detectives from the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch are appealing for information following an alleged incident of deprivation of liberty that occurred in Brisbane on December 17, 2023. At approximately 12:20 PM, a woman reportedly entered a rideshare vehicle on Kingsford Smith Drive in Hamilton and threatened the driver while armed with a knife.

The woman is alleged to have demanded that the driver take her to Masters Avenue in Victoria Point. After exiting the vehicle at that location, she reportedly traveled by ferry to Coochiemudlo Island. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Following a swift investigation, police located and apprehended the suspect on Coochiemudlo Island around 6:15 PM the same day. A 33-year-old woman from Birtinya has since been charged with two counts of obstructing a police officer, as well as one count each of unlawful entry of a vehicle, making threats, and deprivation of liberty. She appeared at the Cleveland Magistrates Court on December 18, 2023, where she was remanded in custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for February 19, 2026.

As the investigation continues, police are specifically requesting witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in anyone who may have dashcam footage from the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Kingsford Smith Drive and Crescent Road in Hamilton.

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch as authorities work to gather further details surrounding this troubling incident.
