The WA College of Agriculture Narrogin welcomed nearly 700 visitors on September 12, 2023, during its annual open day, showcasing an array of activities and displays. Attendees explored various industry exhibitions, participated in competitions, and enjoyed the hospitality that the region is known for.
The event highlighted the college’s diverse programs, featuring dedicated areas for farming, trades, and classroom activities. Visitors were able to engage in walking tours that provided insights into the campus’s history and current offerings. The farming exhibits included bus tours, student shearing demonstrations, and displays of fencing, machinery, poultry, and cattle, all designed to illustrate the practical aspects of agricultural education.
A particularly popular attraction was the “Guess the weight of Winnie” game, featuring the college’s poddy calf, which drew significant interest from families attending the event. The extensive trades area buzzed with activity as attendees explored engineering, furniture making, automotive, and construction projects created by students, showcasing their skills and creativity.
Engagement and Community Support
Classroom areas were open for visitors, displaying student work and science demonstrations that highlighted the educational programs at the college. In collaboration with the Narrogin Restoration Group, restored vintage tractors and iconic vehicles were exhibited alongside college memorabilia in The Club Museum, further enriching the experience for those in attendance.
The College’s P&C Fundraiser proved successful, attracting generous prize donations from the local community and raising essential funds for future school projects. Additionally, the Royal Flying Doctor Service received support through a gold coin donation, which helped provide all-day tea and coffee, morning tea, and meals including a chef’s spit roast lamb.
College principal Clare Roser expressed her enthusiasm about the turnout, stating, “Open day is the perfect opportunity for families in the local and wider community to connect with staff and students, and to discover what makes our college so unique.” She noted the positive feedback from visitors, which reflects the event’s success in engaging the community.
