The annual Albany Open tennis championships took place at the Emu Point Sporting Club last weekend, attracting players from various regions including Perth and Merredin. The two-day event, held on September 30 and October 1, saw a vibrant atmosphere as competitors of all ages participated in the thrilling matches.
On Saturday, the tournament featured 72 players in the men’s and women’s doubles competitions, alongside 38 participants in the mixed doubles event. Competitors ranged in age from 13 to 78, showcasing a remarkable blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm. This diverse range of participants highlights the inclusive nature of the tournament, which encourages tennis enthusiasts of all skill levels to compete.
Tournament organiser Louise Nolan expressed her satisfaction with the turnout and the spirit of the competition. “I think it was really exciting to see so many people enjoying themselves and in a great competitive spirit,” she stated. The enthusiasm was palpable throughout the weekend, with spectators cheering on their friends and family members.
