David Genat Takes the Reins as Host of Australian Survivor

Channel 10 has officially announced that David Genat will be the new host of Australian Survivor, following his recent exit as a contestant from Survivor: Australia V The World. This comes after Genat was the second contestant eliminated from the series, marking a swift transition from player to host.

In a statement confirming the news, Channel 10 expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “10 is thrilled to confirm the ‘Golden God’ — David Genat — will be at the helm, commentating every challenge and tribal council as castaways battle it out for the title of Sole Survivor in Australian Survivor: Redemption.” Filming for the twelfth season is already underway.

Reflecting on his new role, Genat remarked, “Getting to come back as host after playing three times is such an honour. But Survivor is not about me; it’s about the incredible players who put everything on the line to outwit, outplay, and outlast.” He expressed excitement for fans to meet the new cast of contestants in the upcoming season.

Changes in Hosting Duties

The announcement follows the recent departure of long-time host Jonathan LaPaglia, who had been with the show since its inception in 2016. LaPaglia’s exit was unexpected, as he revealed he was “blindsided” by the decision. In an Instagram post, he shared, “I received a call from the Network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show, but for next season they are ‘going in a different direction.’”

LaPaglia also noted that ratings had dipped slightly, prompting the network to seek a significant change. He added, “Whoever said a blindside is the most humane way to put someone down is an idiot. It hurts like a bitch!” His candid remarks reflect the emotional toll of his departure from a show he has helmed for nearly a decade.

The former host clarified that he learned about his exit through a call to his manager rather than a direct communication, which he found disappointing. “After 10 years of helming their flagship show, it would have been nice to get a direct call from the people at the top,” he stated.

Anticipation for the New Season

As excitement builds for the new season of Australian Survivor, fans are eager to see how Genat will handle the hosting duties. His previous experience as a contestant is expected to bring a unique perspective to the role.

Despite the bittersweet nature of the transition, many are looking forward to the new season, particularly as it marks LaPaglia’s final appearance as host. Genat’s enthusiasm for the upcoming season suggests he is ready to embrace the challenges ahead, stating he is eager for fans to engage with the new group of Survivors.

The twelfth season of Australian Survivor is set to premiere in March 2024, and anticipation continues to grow as fans await the latest developments in this iconic reality series.
