Evangeline Lilly, known for her role in the series *Lost* and the *Ant-Man* films, has disclosed that she is dealing with brain damage as a result of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) sustained earlier this year. The actress revealed the extent of her condition in a video shared on Instagram on January 1, 2026, stating that she fainted and fell “face-first into a boulder” during an incident at the beach.
In the video, Lilly explained the results of recent medical scans, saying, “The results came back from the scans, and I missed every area, and my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity.” The 46-year-old actress emphasized that she has been diagnosed with brain damage from the TBI, and she is also considering other possible contributing factors to her condition.
Facing the Challenge of Recovery
Lilly expressed determination to work with medical professionals to address her health challenges. She acknowledged that while the journey ahead will be difficult, she is committed to understanding the issues and undergoing the necessary rehabilitation. “Now, my job is to get to the bottom of that with the doctors, and then embark on the hard work of fixing it,” she said.
Despite the serious nature of her diagnosis, Lilly found a silver lining in her struggles, noting that her cognitive decline has allowed her to slow down and enjoy a more restful holiday season. “I don’t look forward to it because I feel, like, hard work is all I do,” she remarked. “But that’s OK; my cognitive decline since I smashed my face open has helped me to slow down.”
As she enters this new year, Lilly expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue living and working. “I’m feeling extraordinarily grateful and blessed to be able to play one more day, one more year on this beautiful living planet,” she commented during her update.
Details of the Accident
In her earlier posts, Lilly detailed the circumstances surrounding her injury. She described how she fainted and fell face-first onto a boulder, which resulted in significant facial injuries. At the hospital, she noted that medical staff were focused on diagnosing the cause of her blackout rather than just treating her visible injuries. “You won’t find anything,” she recalled telling the medical team in a woozy voice.
Lilly has been open about her health struggles and has thanked her supporters for their continued care and prayers. In her latest video update, she stated, “Thank you all for always asking, for always caring, and for your continued prayers.” Despite the uphill battle she faces, Lilly remains hopeful as she embarks on her recovery journey.
