Glen Powell has confirmed he will not be appearing as an actor in the upcoming reboot of the *Texas Chainsaw Massacre*. The 37-year-old actor, known for his role in *Top Gun: Maverick*, stated that he will serve solely as a producer on the project. In an interview with Collider, Powell clarified, “Well, I’m just producing it with Barnstorm. I’m not starring in it.”
Despite stepping away from a starring role, Powell reassured fans about the reboot’s direction. The film will be directed by J.T. Mollner, recognized for his work on *The Long Walk*, with Dan Cohen also on board as a producer. Powell expressed confidence in Mollner’s talent, stating, “J.T. is one of the great filmmakers. Dan Cohen, my producing partner, and I identified J.T. earlier as one of the great voices.”
While details surrounding the *Texas Chainsaw Massacre* reboot remain under wraps, Powell emphasized his commitment to honoring the original film. He remarked, “I grew up on *Texas Chainsaw*. I promise we’re going to do it justice.” His dedication to the project reflects a broader trend in Hollywood, where reboots of classic films continue to attract significant attention.
Upcoming Projects
In addition to his role as producer, Powell is set to star in the highly anticipated thriller *The Running Man*, which is based on Stephen King’s 1982 novel. This film, scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025, presents a dystopian scenario where the impoverished are hunted for sport on live television. Powell will portray Ben Richards, a desperate contestant who enters a deadly game in hopes of securing funds for his sick daughter.
The film also features a notable cast including Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Katy O’Brian, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin. Director Edgar Wright has indicated that his adaptation will not simply replicate the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but will instead focus on a fresh interpretation of King’s original narrative. In a recent interview with *Den of Geek*, Wright explained, “It was always, in our heads, a new adaptation of the source material.”
Wright praised Powell as the ideal choice for the role of Ben Richards, citing his relatable, charismatic persona as a perfect fit for the character’s working-class background. He noted, “The important thing with Ben Richards is not that he isn’t tough… He’s a dad, and he’s kind of flying by the seat of his pants in the show.”
As the film industry continues to navigate the challenges of reimagining beloved classics, Powell’s involvement in both *Texas Chainsaw Massacre* and *The Running Man* highlights his versatility as a producer and actor. Fans can look forward to these projects, which promise to bring fresh perspectives to iconic stories.
