Homicide detectives are investigating the deaths of two individuals discovered at the home of actor-director Rob Reiner in Brentwood, a celebrity-favored neighborhood in Los Angeles. Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the residence shortly after 15:30 on Sunday, where they found a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman deceased inside.
According to Captain Mike Bland of the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident is being treated as an “apparent homicide.” Detectives from the Robbery Homicide Division have since taken over the investigation. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released by authorities, and the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.
Reiner, who recently celebrated his 78th birthday in March, is well-known for his influential work in film and television. A prolific director, he has created some of the most iconic movies of the 1980s and 1990s, including films like This is Spinal Tap, A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally, and The Princess Bride. His breakout role as Meathead in the classic television series All in the Family alongside Carol O’Connor solidified his status in the entertainment industry.
Reiner is the son of the legendary comedian Carl Reiner, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 98. He has been married to photographer Michele Singer Reiner since 1989, and the couple shares three children. Reiner was previously married to actor-director Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981, during which time he adopted her daughter, Tracy Reiner. Marshall herself passed away in 2018.
As the investigation unfolds, messages sent to Reiner’s representatives for comment went unanswered as of Sunday evening. The shocking nature of these events has drawn attention not only due to Reiner’s celebrity status but also because of the tragic loss of life in his home. The community and fans of Reiner are awaiting further updates from law enforcement regarding the investigation’s progress.
