More than 40 children from Karratha and Dampier will take the stage in a vibrant musical theatre production of Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR on November 8 and 9, 2024. The show, which will be held at the Dampier Community Hall, is being presented by Pitter Pat Productions and promises to entertain audiences with a lively adaptation of the beloved DreamWorks film.
The story follows a group of animals from Central Park Zoo who unexpectedly find themselves in the wilds of Africa. Each performance highlights themes of friendship and adventure, making it a fitting choice for young performers eager to showcase their talents.
Director Kylie Hulkes expressed her gratitude for the support that made this production possible, particularly from Pilbara Ports and the local community. “I have genuinely been overwhelmed by the support of the Karratha community,” she said. “The idea of Madagascar JR started when families involved in the 2024 production of Lion King JR wanted to continue to be engaged in community theatre.”
The initiative has seen parents and youth members volunteer for essential roles, including dance teaching, acting coaching, and singing instruction. This collaborative spirit has been crucial in bringing the production to life.
“There are many expenses involved in coordinating a musical of this scale,” Hulkes noted. “The venue hire for months of rehearsals, licensing, costuming, and other expenses add up. We are grateful that Pilbara Ports has come on board to enable us to put this together for the kids.”
The Madagascar production is not the only theatrical venture this year from Pitter Pat Productions. Another anticipated musical, Mamma Mia!, is scheduled to be staged at the Red Earths Arts Precinct in December, further enriching the cultural offerings in the region.
Tickets for the Madagascar musical are currently available for $20 through the Pitter Pat Productions website and their Facebook page. As the performance dates approach, excitement continues to build within the community, eager to support its young talents and witness the magic of theatre unfold on stage.
