Kelly Clarkson Cancels Las Vegas Residency Opening Due to Illness

Kelly Clarkson emotionally announced the cancellation of the opening night of her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace due to illness. The pop star, who was set to begin her highly anticipated shows on July 4, 2023, expressed her disappointment to fans during a recent performance, saying, “It took me a minute. I’m so sorry.”

The singer’s health concerns forced her to postpone the initial performances, which left many fans disheartened. Clarkson addressed the audience, acknowledging that some had tickets for the previous weekend’s shows. “We can’t help our bodies sometimes. You know, we get sick, and that happens,” she added, expressing gratitude for the continued support of her fans.

In a heartfelt moment, Clarkson revealed that the cancellation brought her to tears. “I’m celebrating because I had to cancel last weekend. I cried. I was so sick. It sucked. I’m so happy to be here!” she stated, highlighting her emotional connection to her audience and the significance of the residency to her.

Fans were initially informed of the cancellation through a post on Instagram, where the former American Idol winner shared her struggles leading up to the performance. “We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,” she wrote. “I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars.”

Clarkson further explained that her extensive preparation and rehearsals had taken a toll on her voice, prompting her decision to prioritize her health. “I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up,” she stated.

The singer’s commitment to delivering an exceptional performance is evident in her enthusiasm for the show. “The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong,” she expressed, reinforcing her dedication to her craft and her audience.

As Clarkson prepares to resume her residency, she remains optimistic about what lies ahead. “I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on,” she concluded, assuring fans that they can expect an unforgettable experience once her health is restored. The Las Vegas residency, branded as one of her favorites, promises to be a showcase of her artistry and connection with fans when it finally kicks off.
