Magda Szubanski’s Emotional Logies Speech Touches Hearts

Magda

At the 2025 Logies, Australian television star Magda Szubanski delivered an emotional speech that resonated deeply with the audience, as she was inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame. The 64-year-old actress, best known for her role in the beloved series Kath and Kim, is currently battling a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer, known as mantle cell lymphoma.

In a heartfelt video message played during the ceremony, Szubanski expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received from the public and her peers. “I do have a good excuse this time for not coming to the Logies; normally I don’t come because I can’t be bothered getting out of my pyjamas. This time there really is a reason,” she stated, acknowledging her health challenges.

Recognition Beyond Illness

Szubanski emphasized that her induction into the Hall of Fame is a recognition of her career spanning over 40 years, rather than her current health battle. “I want to say first of all, let’s get this out of the way, I have not been awarded this honour because I have the cancer,” she clarified. “I am getting this because of 40 years of hard work.” Her remarks highlighted the importance of acknowledging the effort and dedication that artists contribute to their craft.

As she delivered her speech, Szubanski became visibly emotional, thanking those who have supported her throughout her journey. “The love and support that I have felt, like a tsunami, from the Australian public, it has been overwhelming and I have to tell you, it really helps,” she shared, fighting back tears.

The Power of Community Support

Reflecting on the impact of public messages, she remarked, “When I go online and look at those messages, every time, my heart lifts. And I feel that much stronger to deal with the cancer.” Her expression of gratitude underscored the role that community and love play in the healing process.

Szubanski concluded her message with heartfelt thanks, saying, “So thank you for the love that you are pouring my way, I really feel it.” Her words resonated with many, drawing attention not only to her personal struggle but also to the broader theme of support within the entertainment industry and beyond.

As a prominent figure in Australian television, Szubanski’s journey continues to inspire many, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity. Her emotional acceptance speech at the Logies served as a poignant reminder of the connections we forge and the strength we draw from one another.
