Priscilla Presley has opened up about her enduring memories of Elvis Presley, suggesting that the King of Rock and Roll would still be actively touring if he were alive today. The iconic musician, who passed away on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, would have celebrated his 91st birthday this month. In an interview with HELLO! Magazine, Priscilla expressed her belief that Elvis would have continued his passion for music.
“I think he’d be doing the same thing in life – singing and touring. He loved it,” she stated. This reflection comes alongside the release of her new memoir, which delves into both the joyful and challenging experiences of their time together.
Reliving Memories in a New Memoir
Priscilla’s memoir is a candid account of her life with Elvis, capturing the essence of their relationship over the years. The process of writing it was emotionally taxing, taking her over 11 months to complete. She admitted that revisiting their past was a mixed experience, filled with both “wonderful times and difficult times.”
“It took me a while to finish it up. You remember a lot of things, and it was a good thing, to be honest,” she explained. The memoir serves as a reflection not only on their marriage, which lasted from 1967 to 1973, but also on the bond they maintained after their divorce.
A Lasting Connection Beyond Divorce
Despite their separation, Priscilla emphasized the importance of their relationship, particularly in raising their daughter, the late Lisa Marie Presley. She fondly recalled how they remained friends and continued to share moments together, especially those involving their daughter.
“I would bring her to see her dad perform and made sure they spent a lot of time together. She’d spent extensive time with him at Graceland,” Priscilla reflected. Their mutual care for each other remained evident throughout their lives, with Priscilla noting, “He was fun to be with.”
As the world remembers Elvis Presley on what would have been his 91st birthday, Priscilla’s insights provide a glimpse into the personal side of the legendary musician, highlighting the complexities of their relationship and the lasting memories that continue to resonate today.
