Robbie Williams has delighted his fans by releasing his new album, BRITPOP, three weeks ahead of schedule. The unexpected launch occurred in the early hours of Friday, with the album artwork displayed on several iconic landmarks across London. Originally slated for release on October 10, 2025, the album’s debut was pushed back to February 6, 2026, due to competition from Taylor Swift’s album, The Life of a Showgirl.
This marks Williams’ 13th studio album, showcasing a strong inclination towards guitar-driven sounds reminiscent of the era that first influenced his solo career. In a statement announcing the release, he expressed his excitement, saying, “You thought it was gonna be then… then we decided it wasn’t… and now I’ve decided it’s now. Ladies and Gentlemen: BRITPOP – the album.”
The new record is a follow-up to his previous releases, The Christmas Present in 2019 and The Heavy Entertainment Show in 2016. It features several singles, including Rocket, Spies, Human, Pretty Face, and All My Life.
Collaborators and Inspirations
The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Chris Martin of Coldplay, Gaz Coombes, legendary guitarist Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, the Mexican pop duo Jesse and Joy, and former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow. Williams has shared previously that BRITPOP is the album he always aspired to create after departing from Take That in 1995. He reflected, “I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995. It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British music.”
He further elaborated on the album’s character, stating, “It’s raw, there are more guitars, and it’s an album that’s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. There’s some ‘Brit’ in there and there’s certainly some ‘pop’ too – I’m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I’m excited for fans to hear this album.”
Should BRITPOP achieve chart-topping success, Williams will tie with The Beatles for the record of most UK chart-topping albums. This new venture not only showcases Williams’ artistic evolution but also his commitment to delivering music that resonates with both his legacy and contemporary audiences. As fans eagerly anticipate the reactions, his bold move to release the album early has certainly generated significant buzz in the music industry.
