Sam Ryder has released his highly anticipated second studio album, titled Heartland. The album, which debuted on November 3, 2023, through the independent label Artist Theory, showcases Ryder’s reflections on the past few years, marking a significant new phase in his musical journey.
Following the success of his breakout hit Space Man, which topped charts and garnered billions of streams, Ryder faced a period of self-examination. After parting ways with Parlophone, he took time to recalibrate his artistic direction. During this reflective period, he recorded Heartland in Nashville, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich musical heritage alongside influences from classic Westerns, Hollywood scores, and soul music.
Ryder described the album as “a collection of songs attempting to convey the feeling of the last couple of years.” He expressed a desire to connect with listeners globally, whether they are “flying high” or “navigating the pain of forgiveness.” He emphasized that the album speaks to those who may feel lost or burdened by unresolved emotions.
The album features 13 tracks, including previously released singles such as White Lies, OH OK, and Armour. Among the standout tracks is The Feeling Never Went Away, which addresses the complexities of lingering emotions for someone or something that may no longer deserve them. Ryder noted, “Healing and breaking the cycle is about recognising these feelings and accepting them.”
Collaborators and Upcoming Performances
Ryder enlisted a notable lineup of producers and songwriters for this project, including Mikky Ekko, Steve Mac, Mike Elizondo, and Tom Elmhirst. Their contributions have helped shape the album’s sound, enhancing its emotional depth and musical richness.
The release of Heartland follows Ryder’s critically acclaimed debut at the Glastonbury Festival earlier in June, where he captivated audiences with his energetic performance. In a full-circle moment, Ryder is set to headline his largest show to date at Wembley Arena in London on November 6, 2023. This venue holds special significance for him, as it was the site of his first concert as a teenager.
Fans can still purchase tickets for the Wembley concert through aegpresents.co.uk/event/sam-ryder. As Ryder embarks on this new chapter with Heartland, he invites everyone to join him on an emotional journey that promises to resonate deeply with listeners around the world.
