The Savannah in the Round festival celebrated its most successful year yet, attracting approximately 10,000 attendees for its closing performance by the Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band on October 18, 2025. The event, which took place in Mareeba, featured a mix of music genres, vibrant community spirit, and a variety of activities that catered to all ages.
Festival director James Dein expressed his satisfaction with the turnout, noting that attendance numbers were up across all days of the festival. “It has been fantastic to see this festival continue to grow,” he stated. The festival had around 5,000 festival-goers on Thursday, with attendance fluctuating between these figures on the other days. Dein highlighted the appeal of the Zac Brown Band as a global act, remarking, “He was just phenomenal.”
Variety of Performances and Activities
Spanning four stages, Savannah showcased over 60 artists and 80 performances, offering a diverse lineup that included James Johnston, Kasey Chambers, Fanny Lumsden, Daryl Braithwaite, The Black Sorrows, and American artist Jackson Dean. This eclectic mix was a significant draw for attendees, allowing them the freedom to curate their own festival experience.
Dein emphasized the festival’s unique atmosphere, stating, “People love the freedom to curate their own program. There is also great food, traders, kids’ activities, art, and workshops. It’s a true family event.” The inclusion of various activities beyond music contributed to a welcoming environment where families could bond and enjoy diverse offerings.
According to Dein, the camper’s concert was a standout moment this year, attracting a lively crowd that enjoyed a trouble-free experience. “It’s been a fantastic four days from start to finish,” he added, highlighting the positive community spirit that defined the event.
Growing Demand and Future Plans
The campground for the festival sold out well in advance, indicating a strong demand for the immersive Savannah experience. Overflow campers were accommodated at the Mareeba International Club, conveniently located near the main festival site. Dein noted that the sold-out camping reflected a growing interest in fully engaging with the festival community, from sunrise to encore.
Looking ahead, plans for Savannah in the Round 2026 are already underway. Dein shared that the festival is close to finalizing their next lineup, which will include both significant Australian and international acts. “We are close to signing off our next international headliners, with some massive Australian and overseas acts to come,” he confirmed.
As the festival continues to expand, it remains a testament to the vibrant culture of Mareeba and the enduring appeal of live music. The Savannah in the Round festival not only showcases talent but also fosters a sense of community that resonates with both locals and visitors alike.
