Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment: Construction Set to Begin Soon

Construction activity is ramping up at the Bathurst Hospital campus in Australia as preparations begin for the long-anticipated $200 million redevelopment. Site fencing and sheds are currently being established, laying the groundwork for the project that was first announced over three years ago by the previous Coalition government in June 2022.

Originally scheduled to start in early 2024, the construction timeline has faced multiple revisions, with the latest projections indicating a start in the first quarter of 2025. Delays have been attributed to ongoing challenges in finalizing contractual arrangements between Health Infrastructure and the appointed contractor, according to Health Minister Ryan Park.

Upcoming Construction Plans

While a specific commencement date has not yet been confirmed, a representative from Health Infrastructure stated that main construction works are “expected to start in the coming weeks.” This follows the appointment of the main contractor earlier this year, who will oversee the comprehensive redevelopment aimed at enhancing healthcare services for the community.

The redevelopment will significantly improve facilities for patients, staff, and caregivers. The first year of construction will focus on expanding the emergency department and the eastern section of the existing hospital building, which includes a new front entrance.

Construction will be executed in stages, with final completion anticipated in 2028. To minimize disruption for patients, staff, and visitors, careful planning will be implemented, particularly regarding parking and access to the hospital.

Community Engagement and Information Sessions

Understanding that parking and accessibility are crucial concerns for the community, Health Infrastructure is actively working to mitigate disruption during the construction phase. A spokesperson emphasized the importance of ensuring that patients, visitors, and staff can easily navigate to the hospital and access necessary health services.

To keep the community informed about the progress of the redevelopment, Health Infrastructure will host regular drop-in sessions. The next session is scheduled for November 20, 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00, followed by another on December 15, 2025, from 16:30 to 18:30. These sessions aim to provide valuable updates and address any community concerns regarding the ongoing projects.

This significant redevelopment is set to transform the Bathurst Hospital campus, ensuring it meets the growing healthcare needs of the community for years to come.
