The construction of the Maroochy Private Hospital has reached practical completion as of September 11, 2025. Builder McNab successfully handed over the 10-storey facility to developer Fortius Hospitals, finishing the project more than six weeks ahead of schedule. This significant development is part of a growing health and research hub located in the heart of Maroochydore.
The new hospital is a $100 million investment that aims to enhance healthcare access and services in the region. It will provide a comprehensive range of surgical specialties, allied health services, advanced imaging, clinical trials, and educational opportunities. Construction began in January 2024, and now, with practical completion achieved, the focus shifts to internal fit-out work.
Over the coming weeks, medical tenants such as Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group, Sunshine Coast Radiology, Sports & Spinal, and the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) will commence their respective fit-outs in the designated spaces. The hospital is expected to open to the public in early 2026.
Community Impact and Future Prospects
The completion of the Maroochy Private Hospital is set to create more than 400 local jobs and significantly expand healthcare access across the Sunshine Coast region. Associate Professor Daevyd Rodda from Maroochy Private Hospital emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “Reaching practical completion ahead of schedule is a testament to the dedication and precision of the McNab project team, and we thank them for their wonderful contribution to a facility that will have long-term benefits for the community.”
This hospital is designed with user experience in mind, featuring a curtain-wall glazed façade to maximize natural light and distinctive architectural elements such as curved glass corners and a cantilevered Level 8. Additionally, it aims for a 4-star Green Building rating, which reflects a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability through the use of low-carbon materials.
Shaping the Future of Healthcare
The Maroochy Private Hospital will not only serve as a healthcare facility but also as a clinical trials hub, projected to be the largest of its kind in regional Australia. This initiative will foster collaboration among healthcare professionals and researchers, aiming to raise the standard of private care in the area.
As the facility prepares for its opening in early 2026, the focus will remain on ensuring that it meets the healthcare needs of the community effectively. The completion of this landmark project marks a significant milestone in the region’s development, promising enhanced services and improved patient outcomes.
