A new specialist Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic for women and girls is scheduled to open in Dandenong by early 2026. Announced on November 14, 2023, this initiative is part of a broader effort by the Federal Government to enhance healthcare services for women. The clinic will be located within the Dandenong Superclinic and will be operated by the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network.
The new facility aims to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary services addressing endometriosis, pelvic pain, and symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause. Endometriosis affects approximately one in seven Australian women, often leading to significant disruptions in their daily lives. Unfortunately, the average delay in diagnosis for this condition is around seven years, underscoring the urgent need for timely and specialized care. Pelvic pain, similarly, presents a complex and debilitating challenge for many women.
Assistant Minister for Health, Rebecca White, emphasized the importance of this clinic, stating that “too many women have spent years living with debilitating pain that is often dismissed or misunderstood.” She highlighted the necessity for healthcare providers to take women’s concerns seriously and to ensure that specialized care is accessible regardless of geographic location.
White added, “We want women to know that they are not alone with these health issues and expert help is available. These clinics are about dignity, early intervention, and better outcomes for all women.”
The establishment of the Dandenong clinic is part of a larger initiative which includes a total of 11 new clinics under the Government’s $800 million Women’s Health Package. Bruce MP Julian Hill noted that the Dandenong clinic will consolidate much-needed expertise in one location, thereby improving access to treatment, support services, and referral pathways.
Additionally, Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus welcomed the introduction of this “essential care” for women and girls in the region, emphasizing its significance in addressing long-overlooked health issues.
As the opening date approaches, the clinic is expected to provide a vital resource for those suffering from endometriosis and related conditions, marking a significant step forward in women’s healthcare in Australia.
