Artists and Poets Invited to Enter Annual Rosh Hashanah Competitions

As Rosh Hashanah approaches, The Australian Jewish News (AJN) is inviting artists and poets of all ages to participate in its annual card and poetry competitions. This initiative encourages community members to express their joy and creativity through visual art and heartfelt verses that celebrate the upcoming holiday.

Competition Details and Expectations

AJN editor-in-chief Gareth Narunsky expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “We look forward to receiving all the entries and seeing how creative they all are each year. This competition is one of our favourite initiatives.”

Building on the success of last year’s poetry component, the AJN is eager to see this year’s submissions. Aspiring poets are invited to compose a poem about Rosh Hashanah, with a limit of 12 lines. The selected winning poem will be featured in the AJN’s greeting cards, which will be shared with dignitaries both locally and internationally, including the Prime Minister of Australia and the President of Israel.

“We realise that there are some in our wonderful community who are more artistic with words than visually,” Narunsky added. “We’re excited to give everyone a chance to be creative and join in the fun.”

Acknowledging Last Year’s Winners

Last year’s card competition was won by Aviva Sokolov from Leibler Yavneh College in Melbourne, while the poetry prize went to Noa Gomberg from Mount Scopus Memorial College. The winners received recognition and their works were included in the AJN’s holiday greetings.

Participants are encouraged to submit their entries by sending scanned copies, along with their name, age, school, and contact details, to [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is September 15.

The AJN’s competitions not only foster creativity but also strengthen community ties as individuals come together to celebrate the spirit of Rosh Hashanah through art and poetry.
