A young man remains in a coma following a horrific attack that left him with severe burns. On the evening of October 13, 2023, Jacob Thompson, a 19-year-old from Coonabarabran, was walking on Cowper Street when he was approached by a man and two women. According to police, a member of the group allegedly doused him with a flammable liquid before setting him on fire.
Passersby quickly intervened, extinguishing the flames, but not before Thompson sustained extensive injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to a facility in Sydney due to the severity of his burns. Reports indicate that he suffered third-degree burns covering over 32 percent of his body, including his face, torso, arms, back, and legs. Following his arrival in Sydney, Thompson was placed in an induced coma and is currently on life support.
