Man Charged with Manslaughter in 18-Month-Old Poisoning Case

A 48-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the alleged fatal poisoning of his partner, nearly 18 months after her death. The man, not yet named publicly, was arrested on Thursday by detectives from the Northern Territory Police’s Major Crime Squad.

The incident dates back to March 12, 2024, when emergency services responded to a report of a woman found unresponsive in her home in Darwin River. Upon their arrival, paramedics from St John Ambulance declared the 41-year-old woman dead at the scene. At that time, authorities noted that there were “no indications of suspicious circumstances.”

On Thursday, following an extensive investigation, police arrested the man and charged him not only with manslaughter but also with failing to provide assistance. Detective Acting Superintendent Paul Morrissey stated that the police remain committed to ensuring justice is served, regardless of the time it takes.

Police Statement and Investigation Efforts

In a statement released on Thursday, Detective Morrissey praised the dedicated work of the investigative team. “This case underscores the diligent investigative efforts undertaken by our detectives,” he remarked. The investigation has been ongoing since the woman’s death and has involved multiple resources and extensive forensic analysis.

Morrissey further assured the public that law enforcement would continue to work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that offenders are brought before the courts no matter how long it takes,” he emphasized.

The man is currently remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday. The case has drawn attention within the community, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the NT Police to address serious criminal matters.

As the legal proceedings unfold, authorities are expected to provide updates, ensuring transparency throughout the process.
