Melbourne Dad Sets World Record for Aerial Hoop Somersaults

When Kingsley Just took his children to an after-school circus class at Circus Nexus in Melbourne, he had no idea that it would lead to a world record. During a visit to the studio, he saw adults practicing aerial routines that appeared both graceful and demanding. Inspired, Just decided to join in, transforming an innocent outing into a life-changing pursuit.

Just, who works as an air traffic controller, quickly immersed himself in the world of aerial acrobatics. He trains several times a week at Circus Nexus, where he has discovered a challenging and social hobby that also keeps him fit. His dedication paid off spectacularly when he achieved a remarkable feat: setting the world record for the most aerial hoop somersaults in one minute for males.

On June 16, 2022, Just performed 57 aerial hoop somersaults in a single minute, a record now officially recognized in the latest edition of the Guinness World Records. The achievement was celebrated not only online but also in the print version released by Pan Macmillan Australia on October 17, 2023.

From Family Outing to Record-Breaking Achievement

The day of his record-setting performance was a family affair. Just’s wife, Elaine, and their two sons, Sullivan, 15, and Kaelan, 17, were among the 50 spectators who watched as he swung through the hoop with remarkable skill. Just recalls the moment vividly, noting the support from his family added to the excitement of the occasion.

The journey to this point has been transformative for Just. He describes the sport as not just physically demanding but also a creative outlet that fosters social connections. His experience reflects a growing trend where adults seek out unconventional hobbies that blend fitness with fun.

Just’s achievement highlights the potential of pursuing passions later in life. His story serves as an inspiration, particularly for those who may feel that age or responsibilities limit their ability to engage in new activities. As he continues to train and hone his skills, Just remains committed to the circus community and encourages others to explore their own interests, regardless of their age.

The recognition from Guinness World Records marks a significant milestone in his circus journey. Just is now part of a relatively small group of individuals who have achieved such a feat, underscoring the dedication and talent required to excel in aerial arts.

As he reflects on his accomplishment, Just emphasizes the joy that comes from balancing family life with a passion for circus arts. He hopes to inspire others to take the leap into new experiences, whether that means joining a circus class or pursuing any other long-held dream.

Kingsley Just’s story is a testament to the idea that it is never too late to chase your passions and achieve greatness, even if it starts with something as simple as taking your children to class.
