MIFF 2026 Awards Celebrate Innovative Malaysian Furniture Design

The Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) recently recognized exceptional talent in the furniture industry during its annual award ceremony, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from March 4-7, 2026. This event highlighted the creative and innovative capabilities of Malaysian designers, showcasing their work on an international stage.

The MIFF 2026 awards featured several categories, including the flagship Furniture Design Competition (FDC), along with the Best Presentation Award (BPA) and the Furniture Excellence Award (FEA). These awards are instrumental in promoting both established and emerging designers within Southeast Asia’s largest export-oriented furniture trade show.

Celebrating its 32nd edition, MIFF 2026 served as a vital platform for over 700 exhibitors and 20,000 buyers from 140 countries. The event’s theme, “Playful. Practical. Purposeful: Furniture for Generation Alpha,” encouraged designers under 40 to create furniture that balances imagination and practicality for children aged 5 to 9 years.

Jessica Antonius from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) was awarded the top prize of RM5,000 for her innovative design, ROEL. The second prize of RM3,000 went to Doo Jade Qi from the Malaysian Institute of Art for her design, GLORB, while Teh Jian Yin of The One Academy Penang received RM2,000 for her REKA REKA SERIES. A Special Mention Award was given to Prathiin Saravanamuthu from Universiti Sains Malaysia for her entry, STACKABLOCK.

The judging panel, led by Dr. Eric Leong, evaluated 138 entries from 37 design institutions and private firms based on various criteria, including creativity, functionality, ergonomics, safety, and sustainability. This year marked the first time public votes on social media were incorporated into the decision-making process for the main awards.

The event also recognized the efforts of mentors in the field. The Best Mentor Award of RM2,000 was awarded to Ooi Aik Khong from APU, who had previously won this accolade in 2021. APU also secured the Best Institution Award for the second consecutive year.

The MIFF 2026 awards further emphasized the importance of industry collaboration and the creative spirit of design. The Best Presentation Award was claimed by Chuanheng Furniture Products Sdn Bhd, while Foshan Linsy Home Co., Ltd. and Zhin Sheng Furniture Sdn Bhd followed in second and third places, respectively.

The prestigious Furniture Excellence Award, Platinum Award, was awarded to Eastern Decorator Sdn Bhd, with Luxury Sleep Products Sdn Bhd taking home the Gold Award and Instyle Sofa Sdn Bhd receiving Silver. The Judges’ Commendation Award in the Household category went to Best-Beteck Furniture Sdn Bhd, while Heshan Zonman Furniture Limited received the commendation in the Office category.

MIFF General Manager Ms. Kelie Lim expressed her congratulations to the winners, stating, “It bodes well for the industry that we have such inspired designers committed to design excellence and innovation.” She reaffirmed MIFF’s role in fostering the sustainable growth of the Malaysian furniture sector for over 30 years.

As MIFF continues to build a reputation for quality and innovation, the award recipients from 2026 join a lineage of past winners who have significantly contributed to promoting Malaysia’s furniture industry on a global scale. The event not only showcases original design but also aligns with the evolving demands of the international supply chain.
