The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay is organizing a fundraising movie night on October 23, 2023, to support disadvantaged youth in the local community. The event will take place at Orana Cinemas in Busselton, where attendees will enjoy a screening of the upcoming Australian drama The Travellers, directed by Bruce Beresford.
Filmed in Western Australia, The Travellers features a compelling cast, including Luke Bracey, Bryan Brown, and Susie Porter. The narrative follows Stephen Seary, portrayed by Bracey, a stage designer who returns to his hometown to say goodbye to his ailing mother. What begins as a short visit quickly evolves into a deep exploration of family dynamics and unresolved past relationships, particularly with his estranged father, played by Brown.
Funds raised during this event will directly benefit local high school students and school leavers facing financial challenges. Rotary Club president Graeme Atherton emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “Our donations to Busselton Senior High School and Cape Naturaliste College help students and their families with costs such as school supplies and uniforms, attendance at educational events, canteen vouchers, hygiene and health promotion, and shopping vouchers for struggling families at Christmas time.”
In addition to supporting educational needs, the Rotary Club’s contributions extend to local organizations like Jobs South West, which assists disadvantaged school leavers with the costs of driving lessons. Atherton pointed out that obtaining a driver’s licence is often a crucial step towards employment, especially in trades and industries that require reliable transportation.
Tickets for the movie night are now available for purchase via trybooking.com/events/landing/1472770. The Rotary Club invites all community members to participate in this meaningful event, combining entertainment with a noble cause aimed at uplifting the youth of Busselton.
By attending the screening, participants will not only enjoy a captivating film but also contribute to impactful programs that make a real difference in the lives of local youth.
