South West Man Celebrates $1 Million Lotto Win on Birthday

A man from the South West has come forward to claim his $1m Lotto prize from his winning birthday ticket.

A resident from South West Australia has claimed a remarkable prize of $1 million from the recent Saturday Lotto draw, marking a life-changing moment that coincided with his birthday. The man, who is in his 40s, received the winning ticket as a birthday gift from his partner, unaware that it would lead to an extraordinary financial boost.

The winning ticket for the August 6, 2023, draw was initially thought to be worth only a few thousand dollars. It wasn’t until the couple checked their numbers again the next day that they realized they had matched all six winning numbers. “I was in shock and kept saying to my partner, don’t be playing me babe,” the winner recounted. The couple celebrated their good fortune with a few meals at a local café and expressed their intent to use the money to enter the property market.

Lotterywest has highlighted the importance of checking lottery tickets, especially after two tickets sold in Western Australia resulted in substantial division one wins. These wins were part of a larger nationwide pool of winners who collectively shared $6 million from that weekend’s Saturday Lotto jackpot.

According to Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender, August has proven to be a particularly fruitful month for players in the state. “WA has celebrated six Division One prizes in August alone, and 55 in total since the start of the year,” she stated. “Those 55 players have shared more than $95 million in prizes this year, which is certainly something to smile about on this grey and stormy day in Perth.”

The winning numbers for Saturday’s draw, identified as #4601, were 44, 28, 10, 45, 2, and 33, with supplementary numbers being 8 and 26.

Looking ahead, a significant opportunity awaits lottery players with the upcoming Thursday Powerball, which boasts a staggering jackpot of $50 million. Tickets for this life-altering sum are available for purchase both in-store and online until 18:00.

As lottery enthusiasm continues to grow, the recent wins in Western Australia serve as a reminder of the potential rewards that come with taking a chance.
