The Limestone Coast Region will soon see a change in police leadership as Superintendent Trent Cox has been appointed as the new Officer in Charge. A spokesperson for the South Australia Police (SAPOL) confirmed that Superintendent Cox will officially commence his duties in the community within the coming weeks. He succeeds Superintendent Cheryl Jones, who was the first female to lead the Mount Gambier-based position after taking on the role in 2023.
Superintendent Cox brings a wealth of experience to his new position. With a career spanning over 34 years, nearly half of which has been spent as a commissioned officer, he has held various significant roles. His previous responsibilities have included leading the Special Crimes Investigation Branch, the Family and Domestic Violence Unit, the Protective Security Services Branch, and the Media and Public Engagement Branch.
Acting Leadership Transition
While Superintendent Cox prepares to assume his new role, Senior Sergeant First Class Nick Patterson is currently serving as Acting Superintendent of the Limestone Coast Local Service Area. Patterson has held the position of officer-in-charge of Mount Gambier Police for the past five years and has dedicated nearly two decades to service in the region. His experience includes postings at both the Beachport and Millicent stations.
The transition in leadership comes at a time when community engagement and safety remain at the forefront of police priorities. Both Superintendent Cox and Acting Superintendent Patterson have expressed their commitment to maintaining strong relationships with the local community while addressing ongoing challenges in public safety.
The appointment of Superintendent Cox marks a new chapter for the Limestone Coast police force, and many in the community are keen to see how his leadership will shape future initiatives and responses to local issues. As he steps into this critical role, his extensive background in various units is expected to enhance the effectiveness of policing in the region.
