A significant development has taken place in Geraldton with the announcement that Salvation Army Housing will serve as the Community Housing Provider under the Regional Supportive Landlord Model (RSLM). This initiative, backed by the $53 million investment from the State Government of Western Australia, aims to provide 100 new regional social homes equipped with comprehensive support services.
Beginning in early 2026, tenants will start moving into these homes. The allocation process will be coordinated and centralized, ensuring that those most in need receive appropriate housing. The RSLM is designed to facilitate sustainable and permanent tenancies for individuals transitioning out of chronic homelessness or rough sleeping.
Building on Previous Success
Geraldton has been selected as the inaugural site for the RSLM, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing homelessness in regional areas. This rollout follows the success of the Djuripiny Mia pilot project, which has already delivered 100 homes and is currently assisting over 200 individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness in greater Perth, Peel, and Bunbury.
The RSLM forms part of the State Government’s extensive investment in housing and homelessness, amounting to a record $6.3 billion since 2021. This funding supports the goals outlined in All Paths Lead to a Home: Western Australia’s 10 Year Strategy on Homelessness 2020-2030, which focuses on improving outcomes for Western Australians facing homelessness.
Community Impact and Support Services
As the Community Housing Provider, Salvation Army Housing will oversee tenant management and connect residents with various essential support services. This holistic approach is intended to ensure that individuals not only secure housing but also receive the necessary assistance to thrive in their new environment.
The establishment of the RSLM in Geraldton represents a critical step toward creating a more supportive housing landscape in Western Australia. The initiative aims not only to provide shelter but also to foster a sense of community and security for its residents.
