Cornell Cinema is set to commemorate the centenary of the silent film classic “The Phantom of the Opera” with a special screening featuring live musical accompaniment by The Invincible Czars. The event will take place on October 24, 2024, at 7 p.m. in Sage Chapel, located in Ithaca, New York. Attendees are required to purchase tickets online in advance, with special event pricing applicable.

The screening promises to enhance the early horror film experience with the band’s distinctive fusion of eclectic instrumentation and innovative arrangements. Molly Ryan, director of Cornell Cinema, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming event, stating, “Our annual Sage Chapel screening is a highlight of the Halloween season in Ithaca. We are thrilled to welcome The Invincible Czars to breathe new life into this classic tale of mystery, murder, and mayhem.”

About The Invincible Czars

The Invincible Czars have built a reputation for crafting lively and original scores that capture the emotional depth and narrative intricacies of silent films. The group began performing live soundtracks at the Alamo Draft House in Austin, Texas, in 2006 and has since toured extensively across various venues. Their previous performances at Cornell Cinema include acclaimed screenings of “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” in 2023 and “Nosferatu” in 2022, both of which featured their dynamic original scores.

This special event not only offers an opportunity to experience a cinematic milestone but also underscores the ongoing relevance of live musical performance in enriching film viewing. As the audience prepares to immerse themselves in the haunting atmosphere of “The Phantom of the Opera,” they can look forward to a night filled with both nostalgia and innovation.
