Elon Musk to Launch Grok 4 AI Model with Live Event

Elon Musk has confirmed the launch of Grok 4, the latest iteration of xAI’s large language model, scheduled for July 9, 2025. This highly anticipated event will be marked by a livestream at 20:00 Pacific Time, broadcast on xAI’s official account on the platform X. The announcement comes amid rising competition in the artificial intelligence sector, with major players like OpenAI and Google also vying for dominance.

Shift to Grok 4 Overcomes Earlier Plans

Initial reports in May suggested that xAI was preparing to release Grok 3.5. However, recent developments indicate a strategic pivot towards the fourth version of their language model. According to Financial Express, users have already observed references to Grok 4, such as “grok-4-prod-mimic” and “Grok 4 Code”, suggesting the company’s focus on this new release.

The launch of Grok 4 comes at a pivotal time as AI technology continues to evolve rapidly. Musk’s Colossus supercomputer in Memphis is now fully operational, potentially accelerating xAI’s development and deployment efforts. This capability positions xAI to compete more vigorously with established giants like OpenAI and Google.

Addressing Political Bias Concerns

The release of Grok 4 follows recent controversies concerning the model’s political neutrality. A report by CNN highlighted an instance where Grok responded to a query about political violence in the U.S., attributing more incidents to the political right. The response, based on data from sources like Reuters and the University of Maryland, was criticized by Musk as a “major fail” for parroting legacy media.

In response to the backlash, Musk stated on X that he and the xAI team were working tirelessly to address these concerns, emphasising the need for the model to remain politically neutral. He assured that significant progress was being made, with a final run for a specialized coding model planned before the official release.

This launch represents a significant milestone for xAI as it seeks to establish itself as a leader in AI technology. The upcoming livestream event will provide a platform for Musk and his team to showcase the advancements made with Grok 4 and to demonstrate its capabilities to a global audience.
