A free kick from Kazuki Nagasawa was met by Corban Piper, whose header slipped past Adelaide’s goalkeeper Joshua Smits, despite his best efforts to keep it out. After receiving a clever pass from Yull, he evaded a defender and shot left-footed into the roof of the net, bringing the crowd to life.
Adelaide continued to apply pressure, creating several more scoring opportunities. Juan Muniz delivered a no-look pass to Ryan White inside the box, but the Wellington goalkeeper, Joshua Oluwayemi, managed to make a crucial save, keeping the score level.
