Big Mojo Triumphs in Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock

Big Mojo delivered a stunning performance at the Betfair Sprint Cup held at Haydock, emerging victorious as a 16/1 outsider. Trained by Mick Appleby and ridden by William Buick, Big Mojo showcased his potential after finishing a close second in the previous month’s July Cup. In the final furlong, he surged ahead, securing his place at the front of the pack.

Finishing in second place was last year’s runner-up, Kind Of Blue, while Flora Of Bermuda, another horse owned by Wathnan Racing, claimed third. The favorite, Lazzat, finished fifth, competing in the same silks as the other top contenders.

Zeus Olympios Impresses in Superior Mile

Zeus Olympios also made headlines by winning the Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Superior Mile. Trained by Karl Burke, this impressive performance marked his third consecutive win. Previously successful at Kempton and Thirsk, Zeus Olympios faced a significant challenge as he stepped up in class for this Group Three race.

Under the guidance of Buick, Zeus Olympios displayed remarkable strength and was notably dominant, finishing two lengths ahead of his nearest rival, Excellent Believe. Burke expressed confidence in his horse, stating, “He’s always worked nicely and William said after a furlong he knew he was on a very nice horse.” The trainer acknowledged his initial hesitation about entering Zeus Olympios in this grade but noted his significant improvement since joining his stable.

Looking ahead, Burke indicated that while Zeus Olympios has now secured a Group Three title, he intends to proceed cautiously with future plans. “He can’t go backwards from that, but I don’t really want to throw him in too deep yet. I’ll have a look and see what’s available, but I know there’s not a lot available over a mile,” he said. He ruled out travel abroad for the horse this winter, stating that he would consult with Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, the owner, before making any decisions.

Both victories at Haydock highlight the potential of these rising stars in the racing world, with trainers and owners eager to see how they will perform in future competitions.
