Chaz Mostert Secures First Supercars Championship in Adelaide

Chaz Mostert has claimed his first Supercars championship after a dramatic finale in Adelaide, where a crucial incident on the opening lap changed the course of the race. Although Mostert finished second to race-winner Matt Payne in the final event, it was enough to secure the championship title in this year’s inaugural finals series.

The decisive race took place on November 5, 2023, as part of the Adelaide Grand Final. Mostert’s main rival, Broc Feeney, who started from pole position, encountered trouble just seconds into the 250-kilometre race. A collision with Mostert’s teammate, Ryan Wood, at turn six caused Feeney to spin out, leaving him to finish in 20th place due to ongoing engine issues.

Mostert, racing for Walkinshaw Andretti United, demonstrated resilience throughout the season. His performance in the Adelaide race, where he crossed the finish line behind Payne, solidified his position at the top of the championship standings. Last season’s champion, Will Brown, placed third in the race, while Kai Allen completed the top four.

Mostert’s victory marks a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his growth and determination in the Supercars series. The Adelaide Grand Final was the culmination of a competitive season, and the outcome has solidified Mostert’s status as a prominent figure in Australian motorsport.

As the dust settles on the 2023 season, attention now turns to what lies ahead for Mostert and his team. With the championship secured, the focus will shift to defending his title in the upcoming season, as fans eagerly anticipate the next chapter in Australian Supercars racing.
