Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott has officially re-signed with the club, committing to a two-year deal after a series of contract negotiations. The 33-year-old’s decision comes after months of discussions, which included an enticing three-year offer from Gold Coast. Despite the potential for greater financial security, Elliott emphasized that his primary concern was not solely about money.
In an interview with 7NEWS, Elliott candidly shared his thoughts on the contract process ahead of the Magpies’ best and fairest event this week. He noted that as discussions progressed, the possibility of leaving Collingwood became more tangible. “At the start of the year, I made it pretty clear I wanted to sign with the club, but we needed to bridge that gap between both parties,” he stated.
Elliott previously achieved a career-best haul of 60 goals in the recent season, which made the initial offer from Collingwood seem “borderline offensive.” He did not express being “hurt” by the offer but acknowledged the importance of feeling valued as a player. “I want to earn what I can earn,” he added, highlighting both self-worth and the financial aspects of professional sports.
In his reflection on the negotiation process, Elliott expressed gratitude for the eventual agreement. He stated, “Both parties came to an agreement so I’m happy to stay here for another couple of years.” This sentiment has resonated with fans, many of whom praised his openness about the financial realities of professional sports. Comments from supporters included appreciation for his honesty regarding the financial motivations involved in contract negotiations.
Elliott’s journey has not been without challenges. He has overcome significant injuries throughout his career, including serious back issues that sidelined him in 2016 and soft-tissue injuries in 2018. Despite these setbacks, he reached the milestone of 200 games in March 2025, a testament to his resilience and commitment to the sport.
Reflecting on his decision to remain with Collingwood, Elliott noted the advantages of staying with a club that has a strong supporter base. “We have the best supporter base in the country by far,” he remarked, pointing to the excitement of playing in front of large crowds regularly. “To do it in front of 80 or 90,000 most weeks is a privilege I don’t take for granted.”
Elliott’s choice to remain with Collingwood also allows him to continue working alongside talented teammates, including Nick Daicos. He expressed his enthusiasm for the future, indicating his desire to create more memorable moments with the club. As the 2023 premiership winner, Elliott aims to build on his success and contribute to the team’s ongoing legacy.
With his contract now finalized, Jamie Elliott is poised to continue making an impact on the field, bringing both skill and experience to the Collingwood lineup in the upcoming seasons.
