The Keilor Sports Club has officially unveiled its renovated and extended clubrooms, a project that enhances facilities for community use. A ceremony was held on October 24, 2024, attended by notable figures including Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, Brimbank Mayor Thuy Dang, Brimbank councillors, and club members.
President of the club, Hayden Kelly, expressed enthusiasm regarding the new space. He noted, “The place is being used a lot more than it used to be, that’s for sure.” The increased usage aligns with a rise in community engagement, with external groups showing a keen interest in the facilities. Kelly highlighted that club attendance has surged, reporting an increase in life activities memberships by 10 to 15 percent since the reopening.
The project represents a collaborative effort, funded by the club in partnership with the local community, Brimbank Council, Melbourne Airport, and the state government. Construction commenced in October 2023 and completed within nine months, leading to the clubrooms’ opening in July 2024.
While initial estimates suggested a project cost of $1.8 million, Kelly clarified that due to significant community contributions—both in materials and labor—the actual expenditure was closer to $2.6 million. He detailed that the community provided approximately $800,000 to $900,000 in donated goods and volunteer labor, which helped offset costs.
Kelly extended his sincere gratitude to all community members and funding partners for their support. The new clubrooms are expected to serve as a catalyst for increased activity and engagement within the local sports community, with enhanced functions for both the football and cricket clubs already noted.
As the Keilor Sports Club moves forward, the revitalized facilities promise to play a crucial role in fostering community spirit and participation in sports and other activities.
