Naz Hillmon Makes History as WNBA’s Sixth Person of the Year

In a significant achievement for both her and the franchise, Naz Hillmon, forward for the Atlanta Dream, has been named the WNBA’s Sixth Person of the Year. This accolade marks a historic milestone, as Hillmon becomes the first player in the Dream’s history to receive this award.

During the 2023 season, Hillmon made a substantial impact on the court, averaging 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Her performance included a remarkable 53 three-pointers, a notable increase considering she managed only one in her first three seasons with the league. Throughout the season, she came off the bench in 27 out of the Dream’s 44 games, demonstrating her vital role in the team’s success.

Setting Records and Contributing to Team Success

Hillmon’s consistency contributed to her setting a franchise record by playing in 150 consecutive games. Her efforts on the court did not go unnoticed; she ranked second in the league with a plus-minus of +7.6 per game. This statistic highlights her effectiveness in contributing positively to the team’s performance while on the floor.

With her contributions, the Atlanta Dream secured the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, achieving a franchise-record 30 wins during their 17th season. Hillmon’s performance was instrumental in the Dream’s journey to the postseason, further solidifying her reputation as a key player.

Earlier this month, Hillmon also received the AP Sixth Woman of the Year award, adding to her growing list of accolades. Her achievements reflect her growth and determination after playing college basketball at the University of Michigan, where she earned recognition for her skills and leadership.

Naz Hillmon’s recognition as the WNBA’s Sixth Person of the Year not only celebrates her individual talent but also represents a significant moment for the Atlanta Dream organization. As they look forward to future seasons, Hillmon’s contributions will undoubtedly continue to play a crucial role in the team’s ambitions on the court.
