Parkes Masters “Dishies” Claim Gold at National Hockey Tournament

The Parkes Masters “Dishies” team has achieved remarkable success at the Hockey Australia Masters Invitational Tournament, clinching the gold medal in the Over 50s category. The event, held in Goulburn from October 12 to October 15, attracted elite masters indoor hockey players from across the country and served as a significant selection event for the upcoming 2026 Australian Masters Indoor Teams.

Throughout the four-day tournament, the Dishies demonstrated exceptional form, finishing their round matches undefeated. Their journey included a series of impressive performances: a commanding 7-3 win, a decisive 5-0 victory, a hard-fought 2-2 draw, and a narrow 2-1 triumph.

Strong Semi-Final and Final Performances

In the semi-final, the Dishies continued their dominant streak, securing a 3-0 win that propelled them into the final. Faced with a strong Victorian side, the team showcased disciplined and structured indoor hockey tactics. Their strategic gameplay and teamwork culminated in a triumphant 4-2 victory, earning them the coveted gold medal.

Coach David Mike expressed his pride in the team’s consistent improvement throughout the tournament. He attributed their success to hard work, dedication, and the strong bonds they formed as a team.

The achievements of the Parkes contingent did not end with the Dishies. Local player Lee Hodge also made her mark in the Over 50s competition, helping her team secure a bronze medal following a series of strong performances.

Recognition for Future Competitions

In an additional highlight for the Parkes community, several players have been recognized for their exceptional skills and have earned selections to represent Australia at the Indoor Masters World Cup, which will take place in Nottingham next year. Congratulations are in order for Lee Hodge (goalkeeper, Over 45s) and Denise Gersbach (midfield, Over 50s) for their inclusion in the Australian Masters Indoor Teams.

Moreover, Coach David Mike has been appointed as the coach of the Australian Over 50s team, with Dishies teammates Lynn Everett, Narelle Richardson, and Kath Boicos also selected to join this prestigious squad.

The Parkes Masters “Dishies” and their fellow players have not only brought home medals but have also showcased the spirit of camaraderie and excellence in sportsmanship. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes in their community and beyond.
