Stefon Diggs Faces Felony Charges Amid Assault Allegations

Stefon Diggs, the star wide receiver for the New England Patriots, is facing serious legal troubles after being charged with felony strangulation or suffocation, alongside misdemeanor assault and battery charges. This situation arises as Diggs was aiming for a strong comeback in the 2025 NFL season, following a challenging year with the Houston Texans, where he recorded only 496 yards and tore his ACL.

According to a detailed police report from the Dedham Police Department in Massachusetts, the incident involves allegations that Diggs assaulted his personal chef. The report indicates that the two were engaged in a text exchange regarding money owed when tensions escalated. The victim stated that during a discussion about payment, Diggs entered her unlocked bedroom and struck her across the face. She claims that when she attempted to defend herself, Diggs used the crook of his elbow to choke her, leading her to fear that she might black out.

The police report details that after the alleged choking incident, Diggs reportedly threw the victim onto her bed and accused her of lying. Screenshots of their text conversation reveal escalating hostility, with the victim expressing frustration over what she described as “wasting her time” and demanding payment for her services. Diggs’s responses included messages like “I won’t be paying you sh*t” and “I don’t gotta do a mf thing,” showcasing the heated exchange.

In light of these allegations, the New England Patriots issued a statement acknowledging awareness of the situation. The team expressed support for Diggs, stating, “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary.” The statement emphasized the team’s respect for all parties involved, especially given the ongoing nature of the legal matter.

Diggs’s attorney has also denied the allegations, framing the incident as a financial dispute between an employer and an employee that was not satisfactorily resolved. As the situation develops, there are concerns regarding potential disciplinary actions from the NFL, though the league has refrained from commenting officially. NFL representatives noted they have been in contact with the Patriots regarding the matter.

As the 2025 NFL season progresses, the impact of these charges on Diggs’s career and the Patriots remains uncertain. The legal proceedings will likely unfold in the coming weeks, potentially influencing both his professional standing and personal life.
