The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) has officially announced that Teqball will be featured as a medal sport at the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan, in 2026. This decision marks a significant development for Teqball, reinforcing its growing presence in the international sports arena and recognizing the sport’s rapid expansion across Asia.
Teqball’s inclusion in the Asian Games follows its successful debut as a medal sport at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain earlier this year, where it showcased strong participation and competitive depth among youth athletes. Additionally, Teqball was featured as a medal sport at the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand last December, further highlighting its ongoing growth within the region.
Growing Popularity and Future Aspirations
Mr. László Vajda, FITEQ Secretary General, expressed pride in this milestone, stating that the recognition of Teqball at the Asian Games represents not only a major achievement for the sport but also a critical step towards its global reach. He emphasized that the inclusion of Teqball in various Asian multi-sport events inspires ambitions on other continents, enhancing the sport’s popularity worldwide.
Looking ahead, Teqball will also be a medal sport at the upcoming Asian Beach Games in China in April and the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia in December this year. These events are expected to further solidify Teqball’s status as a competitive sport within the Asian region.
Vajda reiterated the organization’s aspirations for Olympic recognition, indicating that the sport’s successful integration into major events underscores its potential for broader acceptance in the international sporting community. The excitement surrounding Teqball’s journey reflects a commitment to fostering talent and expanding its global footprint.
The inclusion of Teqball at the Asian Games is not just a win for the sport itself but also signifies a cultural shift in how emerging sports are being embraced in a landscape traditionally dominated by a select few. As Teqball continues to gain traction, its impact on the sporting world is likely to resonate well beyond the confines of the Asian continent.
