The automotive world is abuzz with the unveiling of the Bugatti Veyron FKP Hommage, a remarkable one-off model that merges the iconic design of the Veyron with the advanced engineering of the Chiron. This vehicle is produced by Bugatti’s Solitare bespoke commission division and pays tribute to the late Ferdinand Karl Piëch, former CEO of the Volkswagen Group and pivotal figure behind the original Veyron project.
At first glance, the FKP Hommage may appear to sport the familiar body style of the Veyron, which was manufactured between 2005 and 2015. However, it utilizes what Bugatti describes as “the highest evolution” of the W16 platform, essentially making it a Chiron extensively restyled to resemble its predecessor. The company emphasizes that the FKP’s exterior represents a “subtle yet significant evolution” of the original design.
Design Innovations and Features
Notable changes include a more three-dimensional front end, where the signature horseshoe grille projects outward, seamlessly integrating with the rest of the car’s body. The rear showcases classic afterburner-style tail-lights, while the vehicle’s overall stance is wider and more aggressive than its predecessor.
The paint job on the FKP is equally striking. It features a two-tone color scheme where the red sections are complemented by a silver base coat, topped with a red-tinted clear coat. The black areas, in contrast, reveal exposed carbon fiber mixed with a 10 percent black pigment in the clear coat.
Additionally, the FKP Hommage houses smaller headlights and larger air intakes, necessary for cooling the upgraded 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine sourced from the Chiron Super Sport. This engine produces an impressive 1,176 kW (1,600 metric horsepower) and 1,600 Nm of torque, significantly surpassing the original Veyron’s output of 736 kW (1,001 metric horsepower) and 1,250 Nm.
Interior Excellence and Pricing
Inside, Bugatti has opted for a truly bespoke experience. Unlike many luxury vehicles that simply retrim existing interiors, the FKP features a unique steering wheel inspired by the original Veyron. The dashboard boasts a custom centre console and tunnel, machined from solid blocks of aluminum.
The seating and door panels incorporate fabric woven in Paris, adding a touch of elegance. A standout feature of the dashboard is a 41mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon clock, which includes a self-winding mechanism that rotates on a diagonal axis several times an hour, independent of the car’s power.
According to a Bugatti spokesperson, the FKP Hommage is expected to cost its owner over €10 million (approximately A$17 million). Before it heads to its new owner’s garage, this stunning vehicle will be on display at the Retromobile Paris exhibition from January 29 to February 1, giving fans and collectors a chance to appreciate this extraordinary blend of design and engineering.
