Cupra has significantly reduced the price of its popular Formentor VZx model, now available for $51,990 drive-away, reflecting a $10,000 discount. This price adjustment applies to the model year 2024 (MY24), marking a strategic move as the company prepares to launch a facelifted version of the vehicle.
The offer includes financing options through Cupra Choice, allowing buyers to make weekly payments as low as $130.05 with a standard comparison rate of 7.25 percent. For those considering the long-term financial implications, the vehicle’s guaranteed future value at the end of a 60-month finance term is set at $19,836.
This latest promotion represents a considerable reduction compared to the original launch price of $70,790. The discount follows a similar price cut for the Formentor VZe plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which saw a reduction of $20,000 to a new price of $47,990, which includes additional features such as a Leather and Camera Package and a panoramic sunroof.
Sales and Performance Highlights
The Cupra Formentor, which debuted as the brand’s first in-house model, has played a key role in driving sales growth for the company in Australia and globally. Despite a slowdown in overall sales for Cupra in 2024, the Formentor saw a remarkable increase of 38.5 percent in sales during the early months of 2025, with 1,013 units sold. This surge demonstrates the vehicle’s strong market appeal as the brand phases out the pre-update model ahead of the expected facelift launch in 2026.
Built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB evo architecture—similar to the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf—the Formentor VZx boasts a 228kW and 400Nm version of the renowned 2.0-litre EA888 turbocharged petrol engine. Cupra claims impressive performance metrics, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds and a combined fuel consumption rate of 7.7L/100km.
Currently, there are 178 listings for Formentor VZx models available on Cupra Australia’s stock locator, with prices ranging from $51,990 to $62,480 based on specifications. Buyers can enhance their vehicles with various optional features, including an Akrapovic titanium sports exhaust for $6,300 and a Brembo performance brake upgrade for $4,250.
Future Models and Expectations
In a recent statement, Jeff Shafer, the head of product at Cupra Australia, indicated that the updated Formentor range is anticipated to arrive in “early 2026.” This timeline has shifted from earlier expectations of a launch in the second quarter of 2025. As the brand aims to give each new model its “right time in the sun,” the delay aligns with previous communications from former director Ben Wilks about the brand’s marketing strategy.
While details about which versions of the facelifted Formentor will be available in Australia are still pending, it is expected that the lineup will include an ‘S mHEV’ entry-level variant alongside a performance-focused 245kW VZx 4Drive model, featuring advanced drivetrain and rear torque splitter technology akin to that of the Volkswagen Golf R. Additionally, at least one e-Hybrid PHEV variant is also likely to be part of the offering, with global options available in 150kW and 200kW configurations.
Cupra Australia has also suggested the potential introduction of a 150kW 2.0 TSI 4Drive variant, likely to be branded as the Formentor V, further expanding the model’s appeal in the competitive crossover market.
